WHY

The importance of Social Prescribing has been illustrated by the GP Forward View, published in 2016 (1), as well as by the NHS Five Year Forward View (2). It is our responsibility as medical, allied health profession and healthcare students to stand up and seek ways to promote this concept among our colleagues and to work together to provide evidence supporting its introduction into the undergraduate and postgraduate medical & AHP school curriculums.

WHAT

The National Social Prescribing Student Champion Scheme has been created to enable medical, allied health profession and healthcare students - the generation of today, and the future healthcare professionals of tomorrow - to get involved in learning about, teaching, and promoting Social Prescribing within their region.

HOW

This peer-assisted learning model represents a simple and sustainable method to educate and raise awareness of social prescribing and social determinants of health among current medical, AHP and healthcare students and tomorrow’s healthcare professionals. Four specific aims were developed for student champions representing medical and health science faculties in the UK.
